Onyx is the
stone of the apostle
St. James and the
Archangel Gabriel, messenger to the Virgin Mary. St.
James'
feast day is July 25th.
Born in Forli, Italy, St. Peregrine Laziosi
is the patron saint
of persons suffering from cancer, AIDS
and other serious diseases.
Pure black
onyx is common, and perhaps the most famous variety, but
more rare than onyx with banded colors. It has a long history
of use for hardstone carving and jewelry, where it is usually
cut as a cabochon, or into beads, and is also used for intaglio
or cameo engraved gems, where the bands make the image contrast
with the ground.
Traditional Catholic rosary of
sugilite with sterling silver construction and lead-free pewter rosary set with
a Miraculous Medal center. Sugilite has deep violet shadings and striations. A
gorgeous semi-precious gemstone.

Sugilite is an interesting stone,
partly because it is a fairly new addition to the many minerals used in
ornamental jewelry. Sugilite forms naturally on earth; however it was only
discovered in 1944 by Japanese geologist Ken-ichi Sugi off one of the islands in
Japan near Kyoto City. Sugilite is a wonderful semi precious stone that comes in
several colors, most notably a deep purple. Sometimes known as the Purple
Turquoise, Sugilite is highly prized, especially when it is very deep purple. It
also is found in other hues.
Five decade rosary of semi-precious 6mm lepidolite and sterling silver. Sterling
silver construction with sterling fleur de lis center and ornate crucifix. The
best way I can describe this lepidolite is that it is like
a lavender marble with varying shades of green
and a little bit of orange. There are clear
inclusions with color and subtle shading. It is sometimes referred to as flower
sugilite and is not actually sugilite. It
is one of my favorite gemstones.

The fleur de lis is an ancient
symbol of Mary's purity and long associated
with the Trinity. Silver was frequently used
by the ancients in the fabrication of sacred
temple objects and vessels, as were gold
and bronze.
Beautiful semi-precious
Botswana Agate and Bronze five decade
Catholic rosary. Scrolled "M" center

Agate is the stone of
the
Guardian Angel Barbiel. Bronze was
used frequently in the Old Testament
in the fabrication of
temple objects and vessels, as were
gold and silver.
Industry uses agates
chiefly to make ornaments such as pins,
brooches, paper knives, inkstands, marbles
and seals. Because of its hardness and
ability to resist acids, agate is used
to make mortars and pestles to crush
and mix. Botswana agate has gray, brown,
cream, and pink translucent banding
and subtle coloring. Each stone is lovely
and unique.

Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral widely enjoyed as an ornamental gemstone. Sodalite is a member of the sodalite group and—together with hauyne, nosean, and lazurite—is a common constituent of lapis lazuli.
Discovered in 1806 in Greenland, sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario. It has since been named Princess Blue after Princess Patricia who, upon visiting Ontario some time after its discovery, chose sodalite as interior decoration for Marlborough House in England.

Smooth amethyst Ave's and Pater beads Catholic rosary. Sterling

Amethyst is the stone of the
Apostle St. Matthias, the
Guardian Angel Adnachiel, and the birthstone of February. Silver was used frequently for fabrication in the Old Testament, as were gold and bronze. St. Matthias' feast day is May 14th.
The amethyst is a violet extravagance. For many thousands of years, the amethyst has been the most striking representative of the large quartz family and a jewel coveted by princes both ecclesiastical and secular. Moses described it as a symbol of the Spirit of God in the official robes of the High Priest of the Jews, and the Russian Empress Catherine the Great sent thousands of miners into the Urals to look for it. In ancient times, amethyst was already being engraved and cut into sculptured forms. In earlier times, people liked to drink wine from amethyst cups, which speaks of the stone's folklore of protection against alcoholism or drunkenness.
